Tara the Android - la biografia

Forse avrete già visto i suoi video in Rete.

* * *

dall'Introduzione

"Tara the Android è un costrutto.

A wordy girl amid the ruins - Kathryn Corbett

Title         "A wordy girl amid the ruins"
Author Kathryn Corbett, CA - USA

At first, the rear. The stamps are dedicated to Martin Ramirez (January 30, 1895 - February 17, 1963) a self-taught artist who spent most of his adult life institutionalized in California mental hospitals, diagnosed as a catatonic schizophrenic.

Now, let's see the Kathryn Corbett's mailart.

The composition is beautifully balanced for style and tone, both as regards the chromaticity that for the pencil stroke. The background is a Thai temple ruin, it looks like an illustration from travel and discoveries books of the early twentieth century.

The female figure in the foreground is "full" of words, the effect is achieved through the cutout of a dictionary, cropped and hatched on the shapes in black. The figure is perfectly balanced respect to the rest of the composition, she stands out to the observer as if she has been caught in the middle of a movement, and gives dynamism to the postcard, by moving the vectors of observation from left to right.

In some ways, it reminds me something about books, reading, travel and discoveries, but with something also nostalgic, perhaps lived in the pages and in the imaginary speculation.

All the tension of the mailart is played between the being "wordy" girl and the ruins. And it's the combination of these two elements, which stimulates both the rational that the irrational part of the observer, putting those two aspects in conflict.

The "wordiness" of the girl is revealed on her skin, where there should be her flesh there are the words. She does not speak, but she is full of words: this short circuit slides the meaning of the term in a - wordy - figuratively rather than real, and makes us wonder whether it is a metaphor for the fact that the girl is verbose when speaking, or if being wordy is a quality that has been sewn on the outside, on her, like a garment that covers her entirely, as a kind of barrier, a veil that prevents us from seeing the reality of her figure.

Many poets of the past have approached the term "ruins" to the word "mute". And the ruins are truly mute, have no voice, but they only speak with their appearance, with their image; the girl, however, has many words on herself, but she does not have an image. What is old, still and dead speaks through its image, its representation; the girl who wanders through the ruins of this reality - the reality of this mailart - is in movement and redefinition continuously through words.

It's a beautiful mailart, and I jealously cherish it for long.

Control the arrow of time

The human being,
immersed in a reality
which by nature tend to the transformation,
do not just take livelihood from it,
but wants to build it,
giving to the changes caused by the arrow of time
an organized and significant form and a content.

Since the dawn of times
the mouth was the first instrument
to perceive and classify reality
giving it a sense,
and therefore finding a place in it.

Daily bread / Future bread

The daily bread, the bread of the future

On the one hand:

the physical proximity
in the range of body language transmission and reception

the cultural identity
of being within the borders of a territory,
to feel part of a group,
and the family ties

being enclosed in a body,
to be linked to the physical nature
by respiration and nutrition

On the other:

the nullification of distances,
the new digital languages,

the transformation of the concept of place, group, tie,
parallel and simulated identities

the upgrading of human skills through technology
and new abilities dis-placed outside the boundaries of the skin.

If food is sustenance, cultural identity and convivial,
what will be the bread of the future?

Traveling Art

Traveling Art
Walter Santoni

The performance overturns the concept of motion:
not the artist to travel bringing with him his artwork,
but the artwork moves elsewhere,
carrying not the artist, but his intervention on itself.

The performance overturns the concept of property:
is not the artwork to be owned by the artist who created it,
but the artwork is to own interventions by the artists who,
from time to time, hosted the artwork.

My wife, I and the Blue Klein

Before I can appreciate the monochrome

- the one of the Dadaists,
and then the one of the abstraction's construction of the early twentieth century,
the symbol of the absolute disembodied of Rothko,
the "white paintings" of Rauschenberg,
the "monochrome propositions" of Klein -

I had to get away from home 1.150 km,
getting lost in cities that I did not know,
getting lost in dialogues of others in incomprehensible language,
lost in moods that I knew only by name
but I had never really tried:
homesickness, hope, loneliness, aliennes,

and finally I find myself writing in my notebook
leaning on the shopping cart
in a supermarket full of unknown product's brands,

writing that
a few days ago,
at the end of an exhausting day
entering with my wife in a stationery shop
she and I were in agreement
looking at some monochrome cardstocks
that it would be nice to get one

- maybe a blue, a blue klein -

and frame it
and hang it on the walls of our new home
and enjoy the single note that issues,
the absolute quiet of its pattern.

A mailart by Keith S. Chambers

A wonderful suspension of time permeates the composition, and a vertical movement ripples the cleaning and formal purity of the graphics and the monochrome, guiding the eye and thus the observer's interpretation, moving in search of meaning, seduced by the simplicity of the elements of the game.

shell > frog> monkey
sea > amphibious > ground
small > medium > great
breathe water > both > air
neural, simple > average > very complex
able to move slowly > to jump > walking
voiceless > few sounds > complex sounds and language

The wire that binds the frog to the shell  break the perspective's interpretation, bringing the viewer on a conceptual research and not just figurative. But is it a real wire? This artwork creates a vast territory free for interpretation, even with elements so real.

Assembly instructions

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Andrea Roccioletti
P-Ars 2015

The human being produces and makes use of assembly instructions.

The instructions are designed to optimize time and resources, and to share experiences aimed at achieving a purpose. So, the goals of human actions tend to the comfort:
to the creation of areas of ease, through objects, practices, forms of thought.

However, for various reasons, partly known and partly not, it seems that the instrumental and environmental comfort created by mankind does not fully meet all its needs, and in particular the deeper ones.

The use of instructions and the realization of pre-packed comfortable situations seems not always lead to an effective personal appeasement and evolution, at the expense of themselves, if not also the other.

I cut and remixed assembly instructions of a famous brand of low-cost, popular furnitures yet tending to design, creating a new aesthetic visual form, which nevertheless remains an end in itself, depriving the purpose of the initial object to put in front of the observer the uselessness. Uselessness which fortunately has the art, and that always brings us back to the real deep questions who can not find satisfaction in universal panaceas, expensive or affordable remedies, but only in the personal processing can be found, and with difficulty, if not answers, at least ways to go.

A mailart by Eva Amity

A mailart by Eva Amity
Portland, USA

A silent and suspended flight fills the conceptual space of the Eva Amitty's mailart, a space "full" of a great stellar void.

A few simple elements create, in their combination, a pervading atmosphere. The fish, with its colors so alien, and yet absolutely natural, approached a century dress of the female figure; female figure wearing a dress near to the cultural tradition more classical, but with a face of the pop icons of contemporary advertising; a current "commercial face", and a classic suit, suspended in the vastness of the cosmos, blended with another living being so earthly and yet so alien and strange, distant.

A universe too vast to be explored with the measure of our human life, in new clothes and old traditions.
